This completely renovated hotel, which has been enlarged recently, now consists of over 40 rooms and can accomodate up to 90 guests. All rooms have private bath and/or shower and toilet as well as a telephone and color TV. The hotel is located in a quiet, residential area, and yet in a "stone's throw" distance from the buzzling "Leidseplein", Casino, Rijks Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Van Gogh Museum, Concert Gebouw (Concert Hall) and many other theatres. The Prinsen Hotel is well situated in the centre of Amsterdam. The Hotel was build around 1870 by the famous Dutch Architect P.J.H. Cuijpers and consisted of two (private) houses, nrs. 36 and 38. There are numerous dissimilarities between these houses. Nr. 36 for example has a chalet roof timber. The roof of nr. 36 is also a little lower and has a dormer. Nr. 38 has a bay (window), whereas the balconies enclosing the bay, continue in nr. 36. The balconies themselves are supported by black consoles, those on nr. 38 are decorated with classical little columns. On nr. 38 you can see a relief of a cat chasing mice. Those of you interested in the architecture of P.J.H. Cuijpers can find more examples of his work in the Vondelstraat, the houses on nrs. 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 73, 75, 77, 79 were also build by him. Famous buildings designed by P.J.H. Cuijpers are the Central Station of Amsterdam and the Rijks Museum.

The Prinsen Hotel is situated very close to the Leidseplein, which offers a wide variety of entertainment, dining, shopping and Europe's largest Casino. The continental style cafes and bars are ideally suited to lazy afternoons and evenings outside watching the world go by. Within walking distance from the hotel you will find the Rijks Museum (very informative from an historical viewpoint), the Stedelijk Museum, the Van Gogh Museum and Concert Gebouw. Should you need directions, our staff will be pleased to assist. Also close by is the captivating Vondel Park, ideal for jogging, a relaxing walk, or just sitting in the sunshine. Pop (and other) musicians give free performances at the weekends. Bikes can be rented from many places in the city for thos who want to make their own way around.
